About Our Monsoon Malabar Coffee Beans

In the Indian port town of Malabar, the coffee growers store their green coffee harvest in large warehouses where it waits for the monsoon rains. When the rains arrive, the warehouse doors are opened, and the moist monsoon air circulates around the coffee beans, making them swell and take on a slight yellow colouring.

Monsoon (Monsooned) Malabar is the most famous of the 'monsooned' coffee beans, and is much sought after throughout the world. This ageing process adds a lot of spice and complexity to the bean, which is what gives the coffee its strikingly original flavour characteristics.

Monsoon Malabar arabica coffee beans are especially delicious as their light sweetness and rich body works wonders in all coffee brewers. The distinctive 'aged' spicyness is smooth an velvety, with a long and satisfying finsh.

25-Jul-09 - And I thought Monsoon Malabar is not a coffee for my taste until I tried it from CoffeeBeanShop... Luckily not overroasted, some oils to be seen though. Very deep and intense espresso, finally I start to like this coffee....

28-Jul-09 - What a great tasting coffee

20-Aug-09 - A Madeleine biscuit did it for Marcel Proust, but for me it's this Monsoon Malabar. Its scent, with the hint of spice, triggers India. I've tried buying Mysore elsewhere; the coffee bean shop is the only supplier that gets it fresh enough. Thought I'd have to retrace my steps, but here it is. Thank you!

02-Mar-10 - This is my staple because it's such a nice flavour: sweet and slightly spicy with a chocolatey linger. It also seems that these beans will last longer (un-ground) than others too, which is a bonus for home-use.

I can't recommend enough, give them a go!

17-May-10 - Best coffee I've had so far. Although they're all great this surpasses any of the others for smoothness. The rich chocolately undertones are a sheer delight. It makes a terrific creme on my espresso too!

10-Jun-10 - I was introduced to Coffee Bean Shop.co.uk by a friend who I thank as the service is excellent and the Monsoon Malabar is one of the best I have ever had with a heady and spicy scent and the taste lingers in the mouth for ages.

12-Jun-10 - This is my favourite coffee here. I make espressos with my Silvia and the espresso produced comes out like guiness! Really deep, rich flavour. Always on my order list.

24-Jan-11 - Monsoon Malabar is supposed to be a wonderful coffee but I've always found it quite disappointing. But after reading the reviews here I decided to try coffeebeanshops version. And I have to say I agree whole heartedly. This is a fabulous coffee! Smooth, chocolaty and delicious! Now it's one of our favourites. Finally a Monsoon Malabar that lives up to its reputation for loveliness.
