About Our Monsoon Malabar Coffee Beans

In the Indian port town of Malabar, the coffee growers store their green coffee harvest in large warehouses where it waits for the monsoon rains. When the rains arrive, the warehouse doors are opened, and the moist monsoon air circulates around the coffee beans, making them swell and take on a slight yellow colouring.

Monsoon (Monsooned) Malabar is the most famous of the 'monsooned' coffee beans, and is much sought after throughout the world. This ageing process adds a lot of spice and complexity to the bean, which is what gives the coffee its strikingly original flavour characteristics.

Monsoon Malabar arabica coffee beans are especially delicious as their light sweetness and rich body works wonders in all coffee brewers. The distinctive 'aged' spicyness is smooth an velvety, with a long and satisfying finsh.
