Green Guatemala El Fogon Coffee Beans

The high mountains shrouded in mist on the volcanic slopes of southern Guatemala produces one of the most distinctive and desirable coffees. With its surprisingly deep, rich body and muted overtones, our premium grade Guatemalan El Fogon Arabica coffee has a rich body, with spice and chocolate flavour hints and a clean finish.

This is my son Ollie’s favourite coffee. It’s the one he first tried when he was helping me out at the home roastery after school when he was only just a teenager. So, it has a special place in our heart and it’s still his favourite now to drink as well as one of his favourites to roast.

It’s a typical South American coffee  with its indicative flavours of vanilla and cocoa. The light-bodied sweetness makes it a coffee that is a real crowd pleaser and ideal for ending a nice meal. Fantastic to drink on its own but also works extremely well in blended coffees, in fact it appears in 3 of our 5 blends.

Coffee arrived in Guatemala from the Caribbean around 1700 and local cultivation began shortly after. Commercial export of Guatemalan Coffee Beans did not begin until the mid 1800’s.

roasting notes

When roasting this coffee, to bring out the chocolate notes, you must hold the coffee into the second crack for a few moments before ending the roasting process.

Best Coffee I've yet tasted

I bought this coffee as I've always been a big fan of Guatemalan Beans but have never got to roating any myself. I'm really glad I bought this brilliant coffee, it's a really, really great tasing bean. So far as I'm still quite new to coffee roating I've tried roating in a small Korean ceramic stovetop roaster and a Popcorn popper, and it works great both methods, and seems to taste good either medium or rich roast so it's a forgiving coffee for new roasters :)

The flavour of this Coffee has to be experienced, it's smooth yet bold and has a real aftertaste tang that I haven't ever gotten from other Coffee's. The only downside is that as it's so deliciously moorish you might get through it too fast and need to order more :)

Thankyou to all at Coffeebean shop for providing such a great product and even better service, I will certainly be back for more.

Coffee Bean Shop Ltd reply: Hi Stephen,
Thank you for taking the time to add your review, we really appreciate it.
The Guatemala is certainly a favourite with us (especially chief roaster Ollie). With a lovely rich body and muted overtones it's a real crowd pleaser. You obviously acheive great roasting results from these beans too!
Best wishes
The Bean Team.
This is my absolute favourite. Coffee from this region gives a very smooth taste, with no bitter after taste. Its the highest quality and so good, I now blend with a lesser quality bean. Highly recommended.Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!]By Heather Wells
