Sumatra Mandheling is a very distinguishable coffee and, as its name suggests, comes from Sumatra in Indonesia. Cultivated on Mount Luser where the soil is rich in volcanic ash, an ideal environment for growing coffee.
We love roasting this because Sumatran beans have the distinctive blue glassy colour until they're roasted fully, they also have a very distinctive shape, rather a long bean… have a look at the shape before you grind!
Our Sumatra Mandheling Arabica coffee beans are full bodied, deep and rich. This coffee has a complex and condensed flavour, which is admired by enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
****PLEASE BE AWARE THESE ARE RAW, UNROASTED COFFEE BEANS, NOT SUITABLE FOR CONSUMPTION BEFORE BEING ROASTED. PLEASE CHECK FOR FOREIGN OBJECTS AS THE DE-STONING PROCESS IS CARRIED OUT POST ROAST AT COFFEE BEAN SHOP. ****
Roasting Notes
Sumatra is a slightly dusty, blue coloured glassy bean. It can get a little carried away once it reaches second crack, so be sure to finish as soon as you hear those distinctive noises. Over roasted, this is incredibly bitter and oily. The simplest blend for an espresso is to pair this with Brazil. I do like this as a single origin.
