Old Brown Java

£6.44

An aged coffee with a story to tell. See further product details below.

Total:

One of our two aged coffees, Old Brown Java's story starts in the 16th century. The coffee beans were originally used as ballast in the bottom of boats and based on the colour of the beans as they aged, the sailors knew how long they’d been at sea.

Hailing from Indonesia, the Old Brown Java that I’ve picked is aged for at least two years.  A bit of a Marmite coffee – love it or hate it – you must try it. Of course, I like it, but I also like marmite. If you haven’t tried this, it’s one for the list.

Ideal to brew in a paper filter to maintain its mature flavour profile in its cleanest, purest flavour.

The flavour of these Arabica coffee beans is truly unique, and similar only to our Monsoon Malabar in spiciness. The musky complex aromas are matched by the rustic earthy flavour notes. The long finish and big body makes this coffee especially impressive.

What You Will receive

Like all of our single origin coffees, our Old Brown Java coffee bean is freshly roasted by us at our traditional family-run coffee roastery in rural Kent. You will receive a bag of coffee that is very much a premium product, where the aromas and flavours will be exceptionally delicious and remarkably better than what you may be used to from the supermarket.

Should be renamed Smooth Old Brown Java, lovely long lasting flavour and body, just keeps getting better as the mug empties.
So relax with the Old Smoothie and your day can only get better.

Having tried a range of coffees over the last month, OBJ and Monsoon Malabar have turned out to be family favourites. I think it's the earthy flavours which make them stand out. I understand some other reviewers have found OBJ to be weaker than they expected, but my machine seems to have enough pressure to get the best out of these beans. We make a lot of flat white type drinks (100ml milk + double shot), but as an espresso it was excellent, tooRating: [5 of 5 Stars!]By Anthony Clarke

I've just had my first cup of Old Brown Java and i'm quite impressed.. As soon as I opened the bag of beans the smell was lovely. Even better once my machine had ground it and started brewing it.

Very nice, Will certainly be ordering it again I think!

Not tried Old Brown Java before. Before coming to the coffee bean shop had bought good quality ground coffee from Waitrose, in particular their Sumatran blend. I was at first a bit surprised that the old brown java was not a darker roast and thought it a bit 'weak' but it has grown on me. I now use more coffee for a stronger taste and I liek the spicy aroma and taste. It seems a good coffee for those who have a sotve pot which I much prefer to sue than a caffeteire (apologies for the mis-speling). Tend to have this coffee first thing in the morning and last thing at night and unlike the dreadful instant coffee I have to endure at work I only need two cups of proper coffee a day!Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!]By Matthew Leonard
